Lets Celebrate a Green Wesak

Wesak’s in a day’s time. The biggest most celebrated Buddhist event in the calender every year is back. And of course D2Y will not be left out at all.

For those who are unaware, Wesak Day marks the birth, the enlightenment and the passing of the Buddha.

Well this year we’re going to make Wesak just a lil bit more special, Green Wesak.

Yes, we’re having a project that is based on reduce and recycle. Save Mother Nature, save the earth.

In order to make such a project work, we have enlisted the help of known environmental NGOs Khatulistiwa and TrEES for this one day campaign. Khatulistiwa are the waste management experts, while TrEES are the recycling pros.

For this Wesak, we are aiming to help reduce the amount of recyclable waste such as cooking oil, candle wax, plastic cups/bottles,  Styrofoam lunch boxes etc.

Every year a lot of these becomes purely waste and gets sent to Wasteland straight. It’s a pity because plastic bottles and Styrofoam lunchboxes do not really disintegrate… Therefore enter a D2Y project where we will be collecting all the thrash at BMV on Wesak itself, before segregating them accordingly to be brought away to be recycled.

Exciting right? I sure hope you are excited!

Because we really need tons of manpower!

This is not something that a handful of us can handle. We need as much help as possible even if its for 2 hours a day. Any help of yours would be more than welcomed and appreciated indeed.

So come along this Wesak Day (Tuesday) to Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields. Bring your friends and family and come join us in making this a successful Green Wesak.

o 7pm-11pm (10 volunteers).
